Hayley
On a beautiful summers day in Lake Highlands Tx, I wanted to photograph a subject in a field of flowers capturing the spirit of who they are as a person. So much of shooting is getting people to be perfect, with the best smile, hair, etc. I wanted to shoot someone capturing their personality. I asked a model I know who loved to read to meet me at Whiterock Lake in Dallas. There is a beautiful field of flowers that I’ve been wanting to shoot. I asked her to bring her favorite book and meet me in the morning before it got too hot. I wanted to get some great headshots with the 70-200mm lens wide open (f2.8) to blur out the background to make her stand out. . Actually I had a bunch of things I wanted to accomplish on this shoot. One: I wanted to shoot her in this field with her book. Two, I wanted to use the 70-200mm lens wide open. Three, I wanted to pull back and get the subject sitting and standing with full body shots. Four, I wanted to use photoshop presets from www.florabellacollection.com. I have hardly used them before. Once we decided on a spot, I broke out my Canon 5D Mark2 and 60D. The 5D I used with a 24-70mm lens for the wide shots and the 60D had the 70-200mm lens for the headshot. I wanted to take a few of her reading, but I mainly wanted to use the book in other ways. She has beautiful blue eyes that eye wanted to capture. Her looking over the book accomplished two things. It showed her best asset and her love of reading. www.lakesidepics.com

Annie
Another family member that some people overlook is their 4 legged children.
Annie, our family Shih Tzu, made a great model for me. I wanted to catch her with a proud look since she is the princess of the house, at least that is what she thinks. I got down low on the ground and shot up at her giving her a heroic stance. I was shooting with my Canon 5D Mark11 with a 50mm lens wide open at f2.8, 1/200 sec and ISO 300. I am enjoying shooting with 50mm lens for the connection with the subject. You have to get very close so the background can become blurred. Okay …sometimes it might make you very close. At least the subject can hear you when you are asking them to do something. With my 70-200mm lens I am so far back that I have to almost scream for them to hear me because I am 15 feet away! Not a good option when your subject might not want to “stay”.I also wanted to use some creative lightroom adjustments just to have some fun. Luckily, Annie is not going to complain that a color is wrong or a hair is not in place. Another perk when working with a pet. Take a look and leave me a comment. Thanks! Lakesidepics.com

I took the Kids to the studio to do some fun shots and a couple of headshots. I wanted to see what I could do in 1 hour with kids that really are tired on me taking photos of them. I wanted to shoot with a 50mm fixed lens that I had never used before, I know that is hard to comprehend because most photographers start out only using the 50mm. I had so much fun shooting with it I had a little trouble getting the focus right that just because I was shooting at f2.8 trying to just focus on the eyes. I also wanted to use the amazing chair that was there and see what kind of shots I could get with the kids using it as a prop. I did under expose most of the pictures because I was working with the kids to get their personality to come out and it was late afternoon in the studio and I just wanted to use natural light. Still we had fun and I learned a lot. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Here are some of the pictures from the Vislosky wedding in April. Craig and I had such a great time shooting the wedding in Denton Tx. Ms. Vislosky had a couple of fun ideas for shots. We also some idea of doing a Brady Bunch theme for them since the bride had 2 girls and the groom had 2 boys about the same age. Ms. Vislosky wanted to do a sparkler shot we had fun experimenting with them, I think they came out great. let us know what you think. Lakesidepics
